Timings, fees and prizes

The late entry fee is £10 - please pay early! The late penalty fee of £10 is due for entry fees received after 11 December for the Under 10 and Under 14 events and after 22 December for the other events.

Discounts only apply if the entry fee is received by the late fee date for the specified event. A full entry fee and late fee are due for entries received after this date.

FIDE rated players 1800 or greater receive a discount of £3 for the Under 16 or Under 18/21 event. National Junior Squad members not qualifying for this FIDE rating deduction receive a £3 reduction for one of the Under 12 Major, Under 14 Major, Under 16 or Under 18/21 events.

Players playing in two events may deduct £3 from the entry fee for the second event. This may be combined with another reduction listed above.

Entries on the day and players who have not paid in advance. All entry fees are due in full before the start of the second round of the first day.

Under 8

Qualification necessary

All moves in 30 minutes each plus 10 seconds per move added. Rapidplay rules apply.

Dates: Saturday and Sunday, 29 and 30 December

Players entering both the Under 8 and Under 10 events qualify for a £3 reduction in their entry fees.

An Under 8 who qualifies for an Under 12 event may play in the applicable Under 12 event for the first day and then transfer to the Under 8. To do this, enter the Under 12 event in the normal way and notify the Congress manager, Nathanael Lutton of the intention to transfer.

ECF Members at silver level or above may deduct £5 from their entry fee.

Qualification necessary

All moves in 50 minutes each plus 10 seconds per move added.

Dates: Saturday and Sunday, 15 and 16 December

First Prize Major: £170, Minor: £95

Players entering both the Under 10 and Under 12 events qualify for a £3 reduction in their entry fees.

ECF Members at silver level or above may deduct £5 from their entry fee. Players scoring 4.5 points or more will be invited to play in the appropriate U-12 Final.

Major: Open to any Under 14.

Minor: Open to any Under 14 with a grade below 121.

Under 16

A FIDE-rated 6 round event
Players in this event should be members of the ECF (Gold or Platinum level) or of their National Federation. Players of other countries without a FIDE rating must show proof of membership. Any player found to be ineligible will be disqualified from the event and their games not rated. There will be no refund of entry fee.

All moves in 90 minutes each plus 30 seconds per move added.

Dates: Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 28, 29 and 30 December

Round Times:

Prize giving: Sunday 30 Dec 18:30

Entry Fee: £29 for Gold or Platinum ECF members, £30.50 for members of other national federations and £39.50 for English competitors not at Gold level or above.

First Prize: £220

Eligible FIDE rated players with full ratings of 1800 or greater receive a discount of £3 from their entry fee.

Under 18/21

Jointly as a FIDE-rated 6 round event. An Under 18 clear winner in this event would hold both titles and trophies.
Entry of Under 16s to this section could be possible to those having an ECF grade of 160 or more or a full or partial FIDE rating of 1880 or higher on the most recent list. Players in this event should be members of the ECF (Gold or Platinum level) or of their National Federation. Players of other countries without a FIDE rating must show proof of membership. Any player found to be ineligible will be disqualified from the event and their games not rated. There will be no refund of entry fee.

All moves in 120 minutes each plus 30 seconds per move added.

Dates: Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 28, 29 and 30 December

Round Times:

Prize giving: Sunday 30 Dec 20:30

Entry Fee: £30 for Gold or Platinum ECF members, £31.50 for others and and £40.50 for English competitors not at Gold level or above.

First Prize: £220

Eligible FIDE rated players with full ratings of 1800 or greater receive a discount of £3 from their entry fee. Eligible GMs and IMs receive a free entry to the Under 18/21 event.
